Origin of Crystalline Menthol

 Crystalline menthol, also known as crystallized mint, is a naturally occurring compound found in the essential oils of peppermint (Mentha piperita) and other mint species. Menthol is extracted from these plants through a process of extraction and subsequent crystallization. 

The Process of Menthol Crystallization 

The process of menthol crystallization begins with obtaining peppermint oil, which contains 30% to 50% menthol. To obtain crystalline menthol, the oil undergoes fractional distillation. As a result, menthol is separated from the other components of the oil and then purified. When menthol reaches the appropriate purity, it is cooled, leading to the formation of menthol crystals. 

Menthol is used as an ingredient in:
