POLYWINYLOPIROLIDON – PVP K30
Chemical reagent CAS No.:9003-39-8
Form: white powder
Contents: min. 99.0%
Chemical formula: (C6H9NO) n
Molecular weight: about 25-30000 g / mol
Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), also commonly called polyvidone or povidone. This type can be used for plant tissue culture applications, allowing inactivation by binding of polyphenols and alkaloids which are produced from explants. It is an alternative to active carbon which does not darken the media, keeping the root zone visible.
Typical concentrations: 0,5 – 2 g / L
Examples for technical usage of PVP:
-as an emulsifier and disintegrant for solution polymerization
-for production of membranes, such as dialysis and water purification filters
-as an aid for increasing the solubility of drugs in liquid and semi-liquid dosage forms (syrups, soft gelatine capsules)
-as an inhibitor of recrystallisation
-as a surfactant, reducing agent, shape controlling agent and dispersant in nanoparticle synthesis and their self-assembly
-as a stabilizing agent in all inorganic solar cells
As a food additive, PVP is a stabilizer and has E number E1201. PVPP (crospovidone) is E1202. It is also used in the wine industry as a fining agent for white wine or some beers.
