Boric acid is a white, solid chemical compound that has low solubility in water and is considered a weak acid.

Boric acid combats pests such as cockroaches, ants, and termites. The properties of boric acid make it act as a poison, destroying the digestive system of pests.

In aqueous solutions, boric acid exhibits antiseptic, drying, and astringent properties. It is beneficial in the wound healing process as it supports tissue regeneration and skin reconstruction.

Diluted boric acid solution is a preparation used in medical treatment. It is an active ingredient in foot powders for addressing foot perspiration issues and wound care products.

Did you know that boric acid can be used for…

Boric acid applications:

Its primary use is in glass production, where it is added as a component that lowers the melting temperature and improves acid resistance. Boric acid is also used in the production of ceramics, paints and varnishes, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.

Boric acid acts as an antiseptic, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory agent. In medicine, it is used as an eye rinse for infections and for the treatment of certain skin conditions such as acne and psoriasis.

In the industry, boric acid is used as a preservative and as a component in fertilizers. It is also used in the production of nuclear fuels, where it helps control chain reactions and suppress reaction development.

Boric acid is also used in chemical analysis to determine the concentration of aluminum and magnesium in samples, as well as in laboratory research as a means to protect solutions from contamination.

Boric acid household applications:

Boric acid has numerous applications in the household, ranging from insect control to surface cleaning.

  • Mold Removal: Boric acid can be an effective agent for removing mold from surfaces. To prepare a solution, dissolve approximately 1 teaspoon of boric acid in a cup of warm water. Then, soak a sponge in the solution and wipe the mold-infested surfaces. After a few minutes, rinse the surface with water and allow it to dry.
  • Surface Cleaning: Boric acid can be used for cleaning various surfaces such as kitchen countertops, sinks, toilets, and bathtubs. To prepare a solution, dissolve 1 teaspoon of boric acid in 1 liter of warm water. Then, pour the solution into a spray bottle and spray it onto the surface. After cleaning the surface, rinse it thoroughly with water.

Boric Acid for Ants:

Boric acid is an effective method for combating ants, but it is important to use it with caution to avoid accidental contamination or poisoning.

  • Boric Acid Ant Traps: Ant traps can be prepared where boric acid is combined with ant-attractive food such as sugar, powdered milk, or glucose syrup. The traps can be placed near ant trails to attract them. Ants that consume the food with boric acid will contaminate it with their bodies and carry it back to the nest, causing poisoning to the entire colony.
  • Boric Acid Spray: Boric acid can be dissolved in water and placed in a spray bottle. The prepared spray can be sprayed near ant trails or directly onto the ants. The spray should be used carefully to avoid accidental contamination of other surfaces or animals. In any case, it is important to exercise caution and use recommended doses to avoid accidental contamination or poisoning.
